ModbusExplorer – Tool for Modbus TCP
Read and change device values – independent of any plant software.
ModbusExplorer is a free Modbus TCP test tool for Windows, Linux (including Raspberry Pi) and macOS: it reads and changes the values of a Modbus device independently of any existing plant software – with ready-made profiles for energy meters, inverters, storage systems and charging stations. The program is free of charge, provided “as is”.

Commission Modbus devices without waiting for the plant software
When commissioning Modbus devices it is very useful to read and change the values of a device independently of any existing software. That is what ModbusExplorer is built for: a Modbus client that can read and write Modbus registers before the control system or energy management is connected.
The program works with profiles created for the respective Modbus server: a profile describes the registers of a device type, and ModbusExplorer then shows the values with name and unit.
Features
-
Read and write values
Read and change the registers of a Modbus TCP device – independently of the plant software.
-
Profiles per device type
Ready-made profiles are included, the list keeps growing; we create further profiles on request.
-
SunSpec
Since August 2025 the first SunSpec models are supported (simple models).
-
REST API
Since October 2025 a REST API allows reading and writing Modbus values from other programs.
-
CSV export
All Modbus values can be saved to CSV files – cyclically as well, via refresh.
